New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced a full investigation into a shocking incident of antisemitism at Hillcrest High School in Queens.

Students at the school reportedly rioted after learning that a teacher had attended a pro-Israel rally.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, forced the school to shut down for two hours and left the teacher hiding inside a locked office.

Mayor Adams condemned the act of antisemitism as a 'vile show' driven by ignorance-fueled hatred.

He emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated in any school or in the city as a whole.

'We are better than this,' Adams said in a statement.

The investigation aims to determine how this antisemitic incident took place and to ensure accountability.

The teacher in question, who remains anonymous, has been part of the city's school system for 23 years and has been teaching at Hillcrest for seven years.

She expressed her distress at the calls for violence against her both online and in the hallways.

The teacher's safety, along with that of all students and staff, should never be compromised in the school environment.

Adams also highlighted an increase in reported antisemitic incidents following a recent attack by Hamas on Israel, which has led some parents to reconsider where they will send their children to college.

Jennifer Brozost, co-founder of the Private Education Advisory Service, underscored this trend and noted the impact it has on college choices.
